Purple pampas grass is a showy grass growing fast ornamental that reaches a height of 6 to 8 feet at maturity, plus an additional 2 to 3 feet of feathered pink feathers that appear in late summer and fall. Allow enough space for a bouquet of pampas grass roses spreads to widths of about 8 feet. Purple pampas grass is easy to plant by seed and takes root easily, but needs to be planted carefully because it can become invasive.
Things you will need
A plastic milk jug of 1 gallon
Knife
Soil
plastic bag rubber
band
Instructions
1.Save a vacuum of 1 gallon of a milk jug. Rinse the carafe until no trace of milk remains.
2.Remove the bottom part of a third from the jug, using a small knife or a cutter. Reserve the bottom of the jug and discard the top.
3.Make several small slits in the bottom and bottom sides of the jug, with the tip of the knife.
4.Fill the pot with a mixture of commercial potting soil.
5.Set the container aside to drain until the potting mix is moist but not soggy.
6.Scatter a packet of purple pampas grass seeds on the top of the soil. Sprinkle seeds with a thin layer of soil no more than 1/16 inch deep. Otherwise, lightly press the seeds into the soil.
7.Cut four or five small slits on each side of a large plastic bag.
8.Slide the pot into the bag. Seal the bag with a rubber band tie or twist.
9.Place the cardboard in a protected place outside. Leave the pampas grass seeds alone until spring.
10.Enlarge the holes on top of the plastic bag when the pampas grass plants are about 1 inch tall, usually in late spring or early summer. Enlarge the holes a little more each week for three weeks.
11.Dig a hole in a well-drained area where purple pampas grass will be exposed to full sun or partial sun.
12.Carefully cut the carton of milk to remove the grass from the pampas, then place the pampas grass in the hole. Plant the grass at the same depth, it was planted in the soil container. Pat the soil firmly around the roots.
13.Water the pampas grass thoroughly after planting and then keep the soil moist for the first three to four weeks, or until new healthy growth appears. After this time, provide the plant with about one inch of water per week in dry weather.
