Choosing the Best Broom Vacuum Cleaner

The broom vacuum cleaner is more and more popular with French households. Simple and practical, he knows how to seduce, sometimes even replacing the traditional vacuum-sled. But they are not all as practical as they seem.

smart vacuum cleaner

After a sales increase of 15% in 2014 (GfK), the broom vacuum cleaner has met with more than success; in recent years, it is one of the cartons of the home appliance market. This craze is not surprising. Indeed, the broom vacuum cleaner has many advantages: it offers maneuverability more and more work by the manufacturers, a quality of dusting close to what offers the vacuum-sleds and an autonomy more and more important.

For a long time they have been used as a secondary vacuum cleaner in homes, and nowadays some models can now claim the title of the main unit in small spaces - places where they are easier to handle than a vacuum cleaner, and less cumbersome at home. tidy.

KEY POINTS
Convenience and maneuverability
It is important to know if the handling of the device is practical and intuitive. We also value its handling, which depends on its weight but also its balance. Versatility is a plus.

Suction
Passage required in our test laboratory. The broom vacuum which sometimes has a vocation to become the main smart vacuum cleaner must suck perfectly, if possible on all surfaces. This must be done effortlessly, without the brush sticking to the floor.

Noise
A smart vacuum cleaner necessarily makes noise, certainly, but some do more than others. This criterion may have more or less importance depending on the users; it seems important to us that everyone can choose knowingly.

Maintenance
A vacuum cleaner that requires a very frequent filter cleaning creates constraints for the user. The tests performed in this context also allow us to evaluate the quality of filtration, very uneven from one device to another.

Autonomy
Very variable according to the model, it goes from 20 min to more than 60 min in normal mode. This is of little importance if the broom that was chosen is an extra vacuum cleaner. This criterion is more important if it is the main vacuum of a large home.

We measure the suction efficiency on various surfaces. We also attach great importance to the convenience of use and simplicity of cleaning: the vacuum is easy to disassemble, the parts are well identified and fit together, the filters get dirty- they are so much and are they washable? The robustness of the device is also evaluated piece by piece. Finally, we measure the noise emissions of vacuum cleaners and their consumption.

Aqara Opening Detector: for Doors and Windows

New equipment has joined my home automation system. This is a new Aqara sensor, which will join my sensors of temperature, humidity, and pressure . And like these, it will be compatible with the gateway of Xiaomi and therefore with the application Mi-Home of the brand, but it will also be integrated into Domoticz! Well, I'm talking about a new sensor, but in fact, I've already ordered two. And it may well be that I order others thereafter. What is the role of this sensor? It is a door or window opening detector. Let's see that together.
 Xiaomi door sensor

Characteristics of Aqara Aperture Detector
Door or window opening detection module
Wireless operation
Technology: ZigBee
White color
Easy to put in place
Works with the Xiaomi Mi-Home app
Built-in Domoticz

Unpacking the sensor
The Xiaomi door sensor package is white and understated, as always for Aqara products. Inside, there is, of course, the opening detector (consisting of two parts), as well as a manual and stickers to fix the 2 parts of the sensor.

The manual will not serve you much since it is only in Chinese. So you have to go intuition. But do not panic, as I indicated in the characteristics above, it is very easy to set up.

Presentation of the sensor and its operation
The sensor is composed of two parts. Thus, whether it is on a door or a window, one will stick a part on the amount and the other on the door (or the window). Here is an overview of the design of the bigger part of the two:
This part has a small button on the edge to achieve the association of the sensor.
On the back of the sensor (on both sides), there is already an adhesive to stick where you want.
Both parts of the sensor make sense. This one is identifiable thanks to the small mark present on each part. The two marks are to be positioned together (here understand one against the other).
The Aqara door opening detector is not very big. Seeing it on the Internet, I thought it was more cumbersome. Judge for yourself, compared to a 1 € coin.

Adding the sensor in the Mi-Home app
Before you even stick your Xiaomi door sensor on a door or window, do the pairing and test it. To do this, launch the Mi-Home app (install it first if you do not have it yet).

  • To add a new device in Mi-Home, click the + icon at the top right.
  • We will make the addition manually. So press down on Add manually.
  • Search the list for the Aqara door and window sensor and select it.
  • Now press the sensor pairing button for a few seconds, until the blue LED flashes.
  • Once the sensor is paired with the Gateway Xiaomi, choose the room in which your sensor will be positioned.
  • Now select the icon you want to associate with your sensor.
  • Finally, give your sensor a name
  • And now, the sensor is now visible in Mi-Home.

It is, therefore, possible to create scenes in Mi-Home to be alerted, for example, in case of change of sensor status etc. Well, the problem is that the application is 50% English and 50% Chinese ... So hard to find what you want ... But it's not very serious since we can integrate this sensor in a solution like Domoticz. And for my part, that's what I did!

Integration of the Aqara opening detector in Domoticz
Here we are now on the Domoticz homepage. Click on the top right of Settings then go to Devices.
  • Click Settings and then Devices
  • For more visibility, click the Unused button at the top right.
  • Click Unused at the top right to display only devices that you do not use
  • Locate the sensor called Xiaomi door sensor and at the end of the line press the small green arrow to integrate it.
  • Click on the green arrow to add the sensor
  • Give it an explicit name and click the Add Device button
  • Give the sensor a name and click Add Device

And that's all! The Aqara door and window opening detector is now operational in Domoticz. You can now include it in all kinds of scenarios and events.

How to Remove Cat or Dog Hair?

Your beloved four-legged friend leaves hair all over the house? If your sofa, rug or clothes are covered with traces of its passage, here are some simple tips to eliminate them easily.

smart vacuum cleaner

Smart Vacuum Cleaner
It sounds obvious but it's still the best way to remove the hair that decorates your sofa or carpet. Do not hesitate to regularly use a smart vacuum cleaner, and use a nozzle with a brush to clean more easily tissues (chair, curtains, cushions ...).

Use dish gloves
Here's a tip you can not do without. Put on a pair of dishwashing gloves and simply put your hands on the cushions of your sofa or armchairs, the hair will stick on it. Tip: Proceed in circular motions, you will only have to recover the balls of hair thus formed. A method that also works very well in the basket or on the cat's cover.

Sponge a wet sponge or washcloth
To effortlessly remove the hair that covers your armchairs, your carpet or the top of your duvet, moisten a sponge (clean of course) and go round the fabric. The hairs will clump together, you just have to pick them up and throw them away. You can also use a washcloth, just as convenient.

Use an adhesive roll
Take a roll of self-adhesive paper and put it on your clothes to remove hairs and fluff that stick to it. For best results, remove the top layer of the roll as soon as the paper does not stick enough. In the same way, you can also use tape (like the one used to close cartons), by cutting strips of tape or by wrapping a little around your hand (adhesive side out) and by passing it on your tissues.

Use a velvet brush
Perfect for removing hairs from fabrics, the velvet brush works equally well on clothes and upholstery. Take care, however, to always move in the same direction and avoid the movements back and forth at the risk of seeing hairs redeposit in the same place.

Use an electrostatic brush
It works on the same principle as your old tights. It is a cylindrical plastic brush that attracts hair like a magnet. Just pass it on the fabric to clean (sofa, carpet, clothes ...). Another tip: use an inflated balloon and put it on your clothes. The effect is exactly the same, the hairs will stick to the surface of the balloon.

Test the softening wipe
New or used, softening wipes are great for picking up cat or dog hair. The fabric softener that you throw in your dryer will find a second use here: use it to wipe the cushions of the fabric of your sofa or your clothes, the hair will stick on it.
